Kyou'ko works very hard at maintaining a respectable image; not the easiest thing to do when your profession involves routinely breaking dozens of Galactic laws. She accepts the moral ambiguity of her smuggling without attempts at justification, and holds herself to a strict personal standard of what kind of cargos she will carry and what kinds of jobs she will take.

Naturally, this means she's often hard-up for money, and so has fallen in bit by bit with the Republic. Kyou'ko doesn't like the idea of having a boss or having to keep office hours, but so far has allowed the Republic to retain her services on several planets. Her true interests seem to lie in treasure-hunting, however; she's recently taken on a partner searching for the hidden riches of a famous dead space pirate.

Kyou'ko isn't really one of Tohru's priority characters so far. She's made little progress in the last twelve months and is still languishing on Taris. Not even her "look" has really been concretely defined yet. One thing about her that I immediately noticed was how American-Indian she looked. Very much like a Holywood Native American. I look forward to seeing where Tohru takes the character, visually and personality-wise.

RETURN TO TOHRU'S CHARACTERS --- RETURN TO MAIN INDEX

Fledgeling smuggler Kyou'ko is the only one of Tohru's main characters that I haven't had a chance to interact with at length. It seems that Tohru is still trying to build the right "look" for this back-burner toon... a job made that much harder considering how scarce good-looking smuggler armor is in this game.
The face and appearance Tohru put together for the character gives her a vaguely Hollywood-ian Native American appearance, to my eye. The Zabrak tattoos and the smooth coal-black hair remind me of the noble Plains Indians from movies like Dances With Wolves or Last of the Mohicans.
Faced with the reality of her holo-image being recorded for posterity, Kyou'ko made a quick dash to the Cartel Market half way through the photo shoot to grab a better-looking jacket to model. Just because smugglers are frugal doesn't mean they can't be fashion-conscious too, people! This premium jacket really does suit the character better, in my opinion; the brown compliments her hair and skin tones a lot better than that blue vest did.
Kyou'ko is actually very patriotic and morally responsible, for a smuggler. She has a strict list of cargos she will not carry (sentients, chemical weapons, drugs, Garth Brooks CDs...), and has declined profitable job offers solely on the basis that they would aid the Sith or hurt the Republic. She also tries to avoid a fight when she can, preferring to smooth-talk her way out of a sticky situation.
And avoiding a violent outcome on principle is all well and good, but when confronted by invitations from Jahnn to play Nar Shadaa rules Pazak, Kyou'ko knows there's only one response proportional to the threat: gunplay. Kyou'ko is, above all else, a sensible smuggler.

Edged on by Tohru's comments that she's yet to find an outfit for Kyou'ko she's pleased with, I offered her a couple of new options. This one's simple but elegant and functional. Jury's still out on whether she'll be keeping it, however.

Some detail on the Drelliad Jacket. I liked how the outfit is just a simple jacket, without any science fiction-y bells or whistles -- Han Solo's jacket didn't have blinking lights or antennae sticking out of it, after all. Tohru seems to agree, at least for now.
