Doriyen

SITH WARRIOR - MARAUDER Specialization - Level 33

Doriyen was created on a whim in order to compare a Sith Marauder to a Jedi Sentinel. I PvE'd him all the way to Dromund Kaas and then basically left him there for a while. But then one of my favorite gaming partners Tohru started a Sith character of her own, and suddenly I had the perfect playmate.

Doriyen was born to privilege and was basically handed his graduation at the Sith Academy on a silver platter. He's not accustomed to being told no and he doesn't like authority figures, but his new friend Vette is warming him slightly to other people's feelings. He treats the men and women of the Sith military with respect and tends to cut them a lot of slack for the job they do, but he does not suffer a fool. I try to play him as a spoiled but basically fair nobleman.

While officially an apprentice of the Sith Lord Darth Baras, Doriyen's also thoroughly devoted to his ally, the aforementioned Siri'ous, whose own path to power converged with his on Balmorra. She quickly earned his respect, and in turn he's dedicated himself to her protection. Whether this split allegiance will cause conflicts when it comes time to choose between master and mistress is up in the air, at this point. (Actually I just really liked Siri's character and felt that such an awesome Sith Sorcerer deserved a thug to do her bidding.)

STREET VEST

On the starting world, Doriyen naturally upgraded his armor as soon as he could afford it. Highly undignified but offering more than triple the protection of the starting armor. It does bear a passing resemblance to the Sith uniforms that trainees wore at the Korriban Academy in ol' Knights of the Old Republic, though, so it's actually kind of fitting.
Good shot of Doriyen's scar, presumably sustained when suggesting that his travelling companion Siri'ous start wearing a dancer girl's outfit. There's some cool shading detail in the Street Vest you can see at this distance, too.

WARRIOR'S VEST

Doriyen claimed an ancient lightsaber from a Sith crypt as part of his innitation for his Master, Darth Baras, and was rewarded with a new Warrior's Vest outfit.
I liked this uniform; it was simple but it also wasn't a wimpy bathrobe like Force users are usually forced to wear. Vaguely militaristic, it seemed like something a proud, aristocratic Sith would wear to look good in front of the other sociopaths.
Here's some nice detail on Dori's first saber. It's the same as all the other Force classes' starter saber, save the Inquisitor's, but curiously its origin is unique; Doriyen didn't build the weapon, he claimed it as a powerful Sith artifact from an ancient Korriban tomb.
Also around this time, Doriyen recieved his first headslot armor piece, which would become the staple element of his appearance from this point forward. Earlier versions of the mask were just random loot drops, but eventually at level 19 he received a modifialbe version he's kept ever since, the Hardened Flexiglass Headgear.

BLADESTORM'S CHESTGUARD

Very, very similar to the previous outfit, the Bladestorm's Chestguard offers the very important added advantage of being modifiable. I really didn't like the way it looked on Dori, though, and he didn't wear it long.
I was really warming to the idea of Doriyen perptually wearing that facemask, though; it's become the core of his appearance now. It suits him very well, in a near-Vader-esque sort of way. The outfit itself, though, just seemed kind of scrawny by comparison; it made it look like Doriyen's head was so big, he might fall over at any minute...
Sith Marauder represent. Doriyen had taken his class specialization by this point, and unlocked the two-saber fighting style. His primary saber's color crystal was originally yellow, but only until he could craft himself a suitable red one to replace it.
A good closeup of Doriyen's current primary saber hilt, my prefered hilt with the wings on the emitter. All of my Jedi carry a saber like this, usually in yellow or purple colors.

BLACK TALON MARAUDER'S TUNIC

Finally, something that suits Doriyen! This outfit has been Doriyen's staple uniform ever since he received it on his first Black Talon flashpoint runthrough. It's got a good combination of armored and robe-ly elements to it and doesn't look like it's be too restrictive; it looks more like he's just wearing some armored gauntlets and boots with some normal street clothes and a trenchcoat. The "Street Sith" look, if you will. Plus, it's mod'able.
A closer look at some of the chest detailing, and at Dori's facemask. This combination really does produce a more daunting Sith appearance, without going overboard with the black and goth stuff.
Doriyen gets ready for battle. I'm not too partial to the secondary saber hilt he's carrying; it was a loot drop and I simply haven't found another saber I prefer more, yet. I like those gauntlets he's wearing too; it gives his robes and leather an electronic touch too, like Vader's chestplace over his black tunic and cape.
This shot lets you see a little more of the detail on his gauntlets. The glowing bits were a treat, that add a nice cold industrial look to the otherwise leathery fabric of the outfit.
Update - 12-19-2013

Doriyen and trusty slave-turned-sidekick Vette survey the streets of Nar Shadaa. The pragmatic Sith finds nothing to loathe or admire in the planetary monument to corruption and decadance; it's simply sentient nature at its most pure, as far as Doriyen is concerned.

Update - 12-19-2013

Lord Siri'ous reappears, nonchalantly declaring that since they've once again bumped into each other on the same planet, she will deign to accompany her lost Sith contemporary so he doesn't get lost.

Vette: "If she wants help with something, she could just ask..."

Update - 12-19-2013

Things start to heat up for Dori, however, as a local enemy of his master Baras starts to make things difficult for him on the planet.

Doriyen is ticked.

Update - 12-19-2013

But as planned, Doriyen is successful in drawing out his target, Lord Rathari, and some sychophant informer that Baras wants dead. Malavai Quinn backs Doriyen up, who was unwilling to risk little Vette in a confrontation with an unpredictable Sith Lord.

Update - 12-19-2013

The traditional taunts and insults thinly disguised as small talk begins. Rathari quickly proves himself to be incapable of reasoning properly. He hates Baras and anyone connected to him, and that's that.

Doriyen excepts his hate happily. If someone hates you, then you're doing something right.

Update - 12-19-2013

But Rathari finally makes a fatal mistake: he decides to stop talking and attack. Doriyen has the option to warn him off.

He doesn't take it.

Update - 12-19-2013

The fight was so fast, no good screenshots could be acquired. In defeat, however, Rathari proves to be even more loathesome and immediately swears fealty to Doriyen.

Because it's not like a man who'll betray his side once would ever do it again, right? Weary to the danger, Doriyen still goes ahead and accepts the broken Sith's pledge. Something tells him he will be needing allies very soon...

Update - 12-19-2013

Cute little Vette has started pushing the envelope with a new wardrobe at this point, in the form of a snug and tight-fitting leathery catsuit. Every supple curve is defined with squeezing accuracy. Doriyen suddenly finds it difficult to focus his attentions on his mission.

And she's obviously doing it on purpose, because, despite her innocent little "who, me?" expression, she's not blushing in the least.

Update - 12-19-2013

Doriyen and Siri'ous continue their individual vendettas to desert world Tatooine. Doriyen detects something amiss in the air, even through his battle mask.

Siri'ous's smug expression, and the empty Bantha Burger Hut wrapper discarded on the floor behind her, suggest a culprit.

Update - 12-19-2013

The team meets with Darth Silthar, the Sith Lord in charge of the local Imperial operation. Doriyen is more interested in the discovery that this kindly old Sith Lord and vicious Siri'ous have apparently taken to wearing the same outfit.

He files this away for future mockery material.

MARAUDER'S VEST

Something I picked up on the Galactic Market, this outfit seems to be a perfect copy of the previous Black Talon Marauder's Tunic, just in red. I'm still trying to decide which color I want to take Doriyen in; angry red looks awesome but it's so sterotypically Sith. The blue is still dark, but less raging and brooding, and more quiet and mysterious.
One thing I like more about this red Marauder's Vest is how the colors look on Dori's facemask. This really does fit together well. I still think there's too much red in this outfit, though; red's a color you shouldn't overuse, especially when you're mixing it with black to make something dark or evil-y.
And Dorien discovers the Emote list! Nice pose showing off some of the flexibility of the game's animation system, and a cool, simple Sithy gesture on top of it.
Nice example of how the "match colors" feature can make any peice of armor work well visually with any other peice, and another cool pose from the emote command list. This outfit is cool, but for now I'm sticking with the blue Black Talon version. At least until something better or shinier comes along.

RD-04B SHARPSHOOTER JACKET

Update - 12-19-2013

But the group's been on Tatooine for days now, and Doriyen's old apprentice-level robes simply aren't sufficient any longer. An RD-04B Sharpshooter Jacket intended for Imperial Agents is acquired through the Galactic Market, and re-modified to better suit an up-and-coming Sith Marauder.

Update - 12-19-2013

This outfit is all kinds of cool. Several visible layers, and all in leathery black. Coupled with that face mask and it's the perfect outfit for the upwardly-mobile street-Sith. It plays well into Doriyen's role as a gray Sith.

Update - 12-19-2013

New purple saber out, and Doriyen's looking good. The coat wasn't meant for a Sith but it suits Doriyen. It creates a picture of a Sith Lord who doesn't bow to tradition, and thinks in more contemporary ways. There's a real "under cover" vibe to this outfit; it would look just as effective on a bounty hunter or mercenary. It's practical and stylish, just like Doriyen.

Update - 12-19-2013

And Doriyen tries some practice maneuvers with both sabers, now in more rebellious colors than the traditional Sith red. The black trenchcoat does a lot to make him look more intimidating than the blue bath robe ever did, it can't be denied.

Update - 12-19-2013

I also like how the outfit looks like it could have been made for that Sith mask Doriyen wears.

Update - 12-19-2013

Doriyen and subordinate Quinn have a moment of tense disagreement while pursuing a lead on Tatooine.

Siri'ous can be heard off-camera whispering "Now kissssssss..."

Update - 12-19-2013

The Sith Lords and their chosen lackies of the hour discover the prone and dying Darth Silthar. It's an awkwardly poignant moment, as the uniquely personable master of the dark arts entrusts the rest of his work on Tatooine to the two newcomers.

Doriyen surprises his contemporary Siri'ous by drawing his saber and administering the killing blow himself.

Update - 12-19-2013

The mission continues, deep into the bowls of the planet. And sure enough, the cause of all the fuss is another ancient Rakatan device. Learned Siri'ous studies the artifact intently while Doriyen and Vette stand watch.

Update - 12-19-2013

Pensive Vette finally gets up the nerve to ask her captor-cum-protector for a favor, and together they complete an old mission left behind by Vette's previous companions. All that's left is to meet her old friends and deliver the goods.

Vette is adorably nervous.

Update - 12-19-2013

And Vette's old crew arrives! It's a refreshingly straightforward reunion and Doriyen is silently thankful that things don't get too emotional. To the Sith Lord's surprise, though, young Vette introduces him as her friend, and not her captor/master. Aaaawww...

Lovely big-sis Taunt in particular betrays excellent judge of character, though Doriyen feels he'll have to talk to Vette later about sharing his shaving habits with strangers.

Update - 12-19-2013

Things go well enough that even Doriyen is invited to the group's celebration! Vette is hesitent: "Do Sith even party?"

Doriyen puts her at her ease. "No one parties like a Sith!"

Update - 12-19-2013

Returning to Tatooine, the two unlikely companions are starting to feel more at ease with each other. Vette's classy new outfit works a lot better in the bright desert sun than it did in the murky lights of Nar Shadaa.

Update - 12-19-2013

But it's quickly back to work as Doriyen and his unrepentent hanger-on encounter ever more Imperials crying for help. Even the pragmatic Sith Warrior is starting to lose his patience with these peons. It's pretty clear to both of them that Tatooine isn't going away any time soon...
