Jahnn in basic Jedi robesHistory

Jahnn was found by the Jedi and began his training late in his teens; he excelled during his instruction with the Order but also never completely abandoned his passions or his free-spirited nature.  As a Padawan, he was recruited for a covert mission to liberate the planet Modranaan from Sith occupation; the mission went badly but Jahnn survived, creating bonds with several of the other participants of the mission including fellow Padawan Ra’r’tee and young Lieutenant Saya’ka of the Republic military.  By his early twenties he was given to Master Orgus Din for the last phase of his training, and bestowed the rank of Knight of the Order.  He nurtured a respect for Grand Master Satele Shan through his youth, but felt greatly let down and disillusioned by her when he later learned she essentially gave up her own newborn son in secret in order to keep her position within the Order.

He would go on to represent the Jedi Order through the entire resurgent war with the Empire, and was recruited by Jedi Master Tol Braga to join a special strike force meant to invade Dromund Kaas and defeat the Sith Emperor.  This mission was doomed to failure and Jahnn was subverted by the Emperor’s will and made a pawn of the Sith; to this day his recollections of this time are clouded and incomplete.  He was, ultimately, able to cast off the Emperor’s corruption and reclaim his freedom to rejoin the fight against the Empire, becoming a recognized hero of the Balmorra and Corellia campaigns.

On the planet Voss, Jahnn received a vision and followed its clues to a lost world where he discovered the remains of a third school of the Force called the Vergent Order, which had embraced a combination of Jedi and Sith philosophy but was ultimately wiped out by these more numerous Orders.  Jahnn’s freespirited and rebellious nature took to these forgotten teachings, which he then shared with others shown to him in his vision: Draaks and Doriyen of the Sith, and his old friend and fellow Jedi Drae’den.  Upon learning of the Jedi’s act of full-on genocide against the ancient Vergents, and then the faction of the Jedi led by council Masters Fane and Aleusis attempting to do the same to him and his allies, Jahnn had a falling out with the Jedi Order and is no longer considered a Knight.  The Council’s grandmaster Satele, however, continues to hold Jahnn in high regard, extending the full benefit of the Order’s influence to him.

Jahnn continued to fight for the Republic against the Sith Empire, often at the side of his close friend Major Saya’ka, to the end of the war and then through the altercations on Makeb, Rishi, Yavin IV, and Ziost.  With the help of his companions he was ultimately able to return to Dromund Kas and confront Emperor Vitiate, this time killing the ancient Sith in combat and ending the Galactic War.

With the advent of the Empire of Zakuul, however, Jahnn and Saya’ka put aside their grudges with the Sith Empire to work alongside Darth Marr, only to become carbonite-frozen prisoners of Zakuul for more than five years before being freed by old allies from Sith and Republic Intelligence.  Entrenched against this new threat to the galaxy, Jahnn and Saya’ka would play a vital role in founding the resistance that would become the Eternal Alliance, bring down the dynasty of Valkorian, and return freedom to the territories of Zakuul, the Republic, and the Sith Empire.

Character

Jahnn is irreverent and free-spirited, and hopelessly flirtatious.  These are all qualities the Jedi believe will lead someone to the Dark Side, but instead they have buoyed him and helped him maintain a connection to his fellow beings that other Jedi often struggle to achieve.  He has trouble with authority, and lacks respect for blind or outdated tradition.  Lighthearted sarcasm features in heavily to his speech.  Jahnn does not believe that love makes you evil or leads to the dark side, and so the teachings of the Vergent Order he discovers, which espouse a philosophy for using the Force embracing both discipline and emotion, are liberating to him.  Fun-loving in his youth and perpetually fascinated at what surprise the galaxy will unveil to him next.  He’s an idealist and does not let concerns about law or tradition compromise his actions.

Combat

Jahnn uses two lightsabers in combat (usually in Jedi blue or Vergent purple) and is a masterful melee fighter with them, balancing power and quickness in true Sentinel fashion.  While he does command great power in the Force, in combat he finds it easiest to focus this power to increase his strength and speed, rather than strike out with the Force as a weapon.

Jahnn is continuously modifying and tinkering with his lightsabers, and so the color and configuration of his weapons can vary wildly.

Special Skills

Jahnn is a master crafter of lightsabers who mixes techniques, metalergies, and technologies from many different sources, including his Jedi training, Sith knowledge brought to him by his allies Draaks and Doriyen, and the Vergent Order techniques he later discovers and expands on.  The weapons he makes are of the highest-quality construction and durability, melding the most difficult alloys and materials to produce superior weapons so reliable and durable that they are actively sought out by others in the Jedi Order and later the Eternal Alliance.  Jahnn’s lightsabers also tend to include an artistic flair, with intricate carvings and etchings conforming to one of countless artistic motifs and themes he’s encountered or created himself.  Like a Hatori Hanzo sword, a lightsaber Jahnn crafts has intrinsic value as art as well as a weapon, and he often builds special, unique lightsabers for close friends as a gift.  Being gifted one such weapon by Jahnn is a very personal statement of friendship.

While never having received any formal training or education in the practice, Jahnn is also a skilled self-taught archaeologist and spelunker.  He’s learned how to recover ancient artifacts from tombs and ruins, and to divine their purpose.

Jahnn also plays the Xantha, a guitar-like instrument, but only as a hobby.  He carries a holographic Xantha synthesizer with him which he plays when he gets bored.

Allies

Jahnn in Vergant armor, with his special lightning-saberDrae’den – A young Jedi who turored Jahnn when he was still a Padawan, the two have built an unbreakeable trust and friendship over their lives.  Drae’den was the first person Jahnn would choose to share the discovery of the Vergent Order’s knowledge with.  Jahnn built Drae’den a double-bladed lightsaber when he was still a Padawan which inspired him to take up use of the double-sided weapon exclusively.

Ra’r’tee – A fellow Padawan who was also on the ill-fated Modranaan mission, Jahnn immediately came to admire Ra’r’tee’s calm and kind demeanor and her dedication to the Jedi Order, and she eventually learned to respect his unique (and often un-Jedi-like) perspective and philosophy.  While she trusts Jahnn’s devotion to his friends, Ra’r’tee sometimes doubts Jahnn’s discipline, and doesn’t approve of him leaving the Jedi Order.  Jahnn gifted one special lightsaber to Ra’r’tee for their mission to Modranaan , and another years later as a gesture of his admiration for her devotion to duty when she was granted the title of Master.

Saya’ka – Another participant in the Modranaan mission that nearly cost them their lives, Jahnn deeply admires Saya’ka for having the kind of serious dedication to a cause that he often found himself unable to have.  As a team the two balance the out each others’ darker sides, with Saya’ka keeping Jahnn honest and on task, and Jahnn helping Saya’ka loosen up and relax.  Saya’ka weathers Jahnn when his behavior becomes eccentric and trusts him in spiritual matters she knows she’s not qualified to address.  The two are close as siblings by the end of the Republic-Imperial war, and continue their partnership as they build and command the Eternal Alliance together.

Draaks – A Sith Sorcerer called to the same nameless ancient world as Jahnn to discover the history of the Vergent Order, Draaks and Jahnn quickly became allies and eventually friends as they worked together to extract the knowledge of the Vergents. They fought side-by-side against Council Master Fane and Aleusis’s forces, and became the only friend the other had in the aftermath when their own Orders declared them persona non grata.  The two and their other Vergent disciples are now close-knit allies.
